On taking yourself (mind) seriously
Never do that!
Let me start this by sharing a personal experience:
Yesterday, I shared the link to my post on meditation on my Instagram story, and to my surprise, a lot of people read it. I was genuinely overwhelmed by the response. For starters, thank you all for taking out the time to read. The part that everyone seemed to love the most was my black-board analogy. (if you haven’t read it yet, here is the link)
I was honestly shocked by how well that analogy was received. Because, while writing it, I was filled with self-doubt. I wasn’t very convinced by the idea myself. I was constantly thinking that it wouldn’t work. But, I decided to go against my will and went ahead with it. Thinking about it now, I don’t know from where that conviction came.
I guess it might have developed somewhere in my mind while reading Mark Cuban’s book, How to Win at the Sports of Business. In one of the chapters, he says:
“Never take yourself too seriously.”
And, he was using the word yourself equivalent to the mind, something that self-doubts a lot. I took his quote seriously xd.
And, if I hadn’t read this quote, I wouldn’t have posted that analogy. But I did - and people actually liked my idea. Going forward, I will be happy to see people use my idea - in their daily conversations, writings or discussions.
